[ tip ] using the pattern feature

you have to make a grid background or scanlines or a background. How would you do it? Doing each one is painstaking.
Here is a great tool that should cut you some time.

First, create an image that would repeat. For a grid, do not make a complete box. Instead just do 2 lines like this:



After you made that, crop any excess clear space.
Then go to Edit > Define Pattern
Name it whatever you chose.
Create a new image, or a new layer in a separate graphic file.
Select Edit > Fill
A box should show up. Select Pattern

Then select the little grid that you made.
It should result in something like this:

you can make some mad brushes aswell.....the same way

on the top menu bar, under Edit/ define pattern... (also define brush...)

...then turn option to 'pattern' instead of 'foreground' in the paintbucket service window -> paint bucket options

but if you need a limited number of patterns i'd solve with problems aligning/guiding manipulation with several copies of pattern image each put on its own layer

...don't forget to turn on 'snap to guides' option in 'View' menu after they created

oops
i should say it in clearer way - i meant turning on snapping after creating guides not patterns
and i guess it will be needed to turn rulers to visible to create guides
