tip for those posting Snaps.

Hey guys,
if you are posting snaps, please don't give us the url of the folder to see each image and click back again and again.

Instead, use this: http://www.onfocus.com/snap/

thanks for the link abhi...seems nice little program...

for photoshop users though...ps already has a similar system builtin...to auto create a gallery with thumbnails, navigation, and such...
just choose a source and destination folder and ps will generate all the html pages, links, thumbs, images, etc...

...or you could use http://dev.vena.net/o8/photo.zip - an index.php which will hoke out and list your images in a nice crisp page like mine @ http://rinse.h30.org/wedding.

Just chuck yer images into a folder, chuck in index.php and your in business.. Handy for archiving dull photos of weddings and such..

[if you do use it please retain the line at the bottom]

Only problem is; you need a "kiddy scripting" PHP web host to use that. I can feel the flames comin'

I don't see that as a problem. Most people here have access to web hosting which is of a reasonable calibre.

If I was using a web host aimed at MS Frontpage users like brinkster.com I would see the problem.

hehehe. now ur talking man.

hehe. Brinkster is not for Frontpage users. well and frontpage is not for designers too. FP sucks bigtime.

Brinskter supports ASP and thats cool. U don't need to use Frontpage for that.
all of the guys here (as fas as i know) don't use Frontpage...heck...any WYSIWYG editor. We all code by HAND in a text-editor like Notepad/MEtapad. and u want to see an example of what brinskter supprts. check my or Tim's site

both....back and forth...
in html pages :
50% WYSIWYG view for layout/placements of stuff....quick table creation...
50% code view for most of the editing and tweaking...

but lately, since i've been playing with the forums, all the pages i edit are php files...so pretty much spend 95% of th time in the code view window

to me, nothing wrong in using wysiwyg apps if that can save me a lot of extra hrs that i can use for designing...after all, i'm a designer, not programmer...heheh
whatever works is good...

I couldn't give a toss what programs people use, or what hosts people use.. no skin off my nose. I was simply responding to Tim's invitation of "I can feel the flames comin' ". I thought I'd give him a pithy response....

Alas, we've got side-tracked. If you want to display photos on the web on the fly with thumbnails and swanky navigation use http://www.onfocus.com/snap/ or photoshop, or dreamweaver [if u have fireworks]. If your a lazy git and want neato slick pages displaying what images u have in a directory - use the satanical PHP effort I suggested [unless you are Tim and abhi]....

As with web hosts, text editors and WYSIWYG contraptions - Each To Their Own!
