very cool idea, but i think the post-it note is a bit too dirty (dark)

It doesn't really look like a site.. and that could be a problem when you build it.

when does a site need to look like a site?..lol..

jim, nice design..
agree with henke on the "dirty" look...it was a bit overdone...way too shadowy/dirty...
overall great though...hope to see the finished site!!

lol don't listening to the programmers they can't design out of a paperbag :X lol! heh

Have you tried enlarging the paper and tilting it a bit? (if its going to be Flash)

I like the idea

Because, well... had another look, it's the text bit which makes it look quite non-site-ish, or something.

I like it... it's kinda miniml, but that's always good. imo the menu could use a bit of work, but...

flash or html?

thanks all for your input

here's a working version, all details (including menu) are dynamic using xml/php so updating will be easy:
clicky

postit: well i like the 'grubby' style and so did the client, i did make it a bit less dirty though.

about tilting the whole site: you have to think about what happens to small text when you do that.

cheers, james

Looks very cool...
Only one thing, and that is the text is very tiny on my computer.
Colud be just that, or the font... but, straining my eyes to see it, and what with it beeing flash i cant even use firefox to make it bigger for me.

fixed the text issue, i forgot to embed the font.

also wrote a script to fully justify the text, since flash can't do this on dynamic text.

clicky

thanks for all your input

cheers, james

you're definitely more of an artist than a programmer janny.

nice site jim, i like the post-it note effect.
<put accessibility hat on>
my only slight complaint is that the links aren't amazingly obvious at first, and the tooltips annoy me to be honest; probably just me though.
also the fact its flash but i wont get into that
</remove hat>

ahhh, but....

<puts smart ass hat on>
i am also very much into promoting standards, where flash plays no part.
so:

all the info in the site is driven from xml files
when the site is done, i will design an html site to be similar, without animations and other flash-specific aspects.
all the content will be driven from the same xml files, arranged with php

the architecture will be as follows:
code:
-> xhtml strict page with simple css styling
-> load external java script which runs a flash detection
-> if flash is ok then html content is removed and flash object is written in
-> if no flash run extra java script detection
-> if ok then add graphics etc... to html page

this should satisfy all accessibility issues and provide fun content if you have flash, or if not, as much as java script will do...
</remove>

as for the links, do you mean that it is not obvious that they even are a menu, or that you just don't know where they are going to go?

as for the tool-tips, i feel that all links should have extra info in the form of a tooltip, whether a flash or html site....

cheers, james

Sounds good, James, just add an option to switch to the HTML page when you have Flash enabled.

is there still no way to check for the flash plugin serverside? if you could check for it first, i'd be all for some of the better flash sites.

yes but no. this would be the best option but:

this is only available for version 7+ which means i need mx04, and i'm very happy with mx thank you very much.

also, it relies on the browser sending info to the server before it loads the page, which is inconsistent at best between browsers, and in IE inconsistent full stop.

what fun.....
