abstract art

tool: photoshop

what filters would you use for a futuristic kind of look?
(still trying to get a hang of this version...)
having a hard time trying to get one of those abstract looks that i've been seeing with graphics people. Even anders pulled one
confused...

lol...i'll take that as a compliment

so, what version are you using?
i think 6 and 7 have over a dozen more filters and features than 5.5 but since i dont use them, don't know what they would be...
i use 5.5 and its built in filters/effects for 95% of my graphics...try to stay away from most 3rd party plugins since their effects will make most artwork look the same...
of course, not always true but for most plugins are like that...

for abstract look, there is really no basic technique...since it is after all, abstract..
just keep tweaking, combining, cropping, blurring, coloring, decoloring, layering, adjusting until you are happy with the final result.... for me, the main tools however for abstract work are the blur tool(s) and mixing layers and how you use them to achieve what you want...

note: many might disagree with me here but hey, this is just a description of how i do my things...

for futuristic feel, use more combination of thin lines, squares, dark colors with bright soft spots, and maybe some faded 3d objects...

ok, i'll stop babbling now before you fall

hope that helped clarify something.. : )

both ways...depending what i'm after...
patterned if i want it to cover a wider area and has to be uniform, duplicate layers if i want to create unordered look...

for a simple techy grid effect.
here's a trick i use a lot...
fill an ampty layer with whatever color you want.
i usually use white because i just want the lines to show.
then open up your filters.
under texture, select "patchwork" and set the relief all the way down.
make the square size whatever you like and set the transparency to "darken" or something similar.
bam.. got yerself a grid.

if i want a less simetrical grid.. say for a mesh-like effect..
then i use the single row selection tool and do a lot of duplicating.

if you want any other tricks just ask.
i got a million of em.
